Tues 3rd Aug
It's Edinburgh, 1820, and Thomas De Quincey, the flawed English man of letters and laudanum addict, sits shivering in his dingy lodgings in the Grassmarket. Driven by demons from without and within, he scribbles desperately to meet a deadline which has already passed and waits on his simple-minded servant Willie to bring him the laudanum he craves. Laugh-out loud funny and deeply moving, this is an utterly compelling portrait of a bizarre and symbiotic relationship.
